Apache Junction is the westernmost suburban city in the Phoenix metro area. It is also the gateway to the infamous Superstition Mountains. El Mirage was once a small and quaint town, but in recent years, the community has blossomed into a sizable suburban city. With a population of roughly 35,000 people, El Mirage is now the focus of economic growth and expansion. The city, however, has its origins in agriculture and irrigation. The Hohokam, an ancient Native American tribe, were the original inhabitants of the area and all of them were skilled farmers. Also, during the 1930s, migrant farmers traveled to the area to grow and harvest various crops. El Mirage was officially incorporated as a city back in 1951.
